The network company Alliander, based in Arnhem, consists of the business units Liander, Endinet and Liandon. The aggregated revenues of the business units for 2010 were approximately € 1.4 billion.
Liander forms the core of the group, accounting for about 85% of revenues and manages the gas and electricity networks in the provinces of Gelderland, Friesland, Flevoland, Noord-Holland and parts of Zuid-Holland. This role is laid down in the law. Liandon designs, realizes and maintains complex energy infrastructures for customers.
Endinet B.V. is responsible for the operation, maintenance and design of the electricity and gas grids in the regions of Eindhoven and Oost-Brabant.
Liandon works on energy infrastructures for high-voltage, complex medium-voltage and industrial installations.
Alliander also holds some Germany based activities under its German holding company Alliander A.G. Activities in Germany include grid management and the design and maintenance of public lighting in the City of Berlin.
Alliander N.V. is the legal successor of the former energy company N.V. Nuon, who held both regulated activities (network) and commercial activities (production and supply). On June 29th, 2009 N.V. Nuon spun off the commercial activities (Nuon Energy) from the network activities (Alliander). The unbundling was effectuated by the transfer of all the shares of N.V. Nuon Energy from N.V. Nuon to the shareholders of N.V. Nuon. Since that time N.V. Nuon and N.V. Nuon Energy have been independent companies, owned by the same shareholders. On June 30th, 2009 Alliander N.V. merged into N.V. Nuon and renamed into Alliander N.V. The shareholders of N.V. Nuon Energy sold 100% of their shares to Vattenfall AB. Delivery and payment of the shares will be phased in the subsequent six years under fixed terms. The (partial) sale of the shares of N.V. Nuon Energy by the shareholders to Vattenfall will have no effect whatsoever on N.V. Nuon or its legal successor Alliander N.V.
On 1 July 2010 Alliander acquired the shares of network company Endinet B.V.. For the next 5 years Endinet will continue to operate as a separate grid operator within the Alliander Group, except for Endinet Haarlemmermeer whose activities were directly integrated in Liander.
