Liandon

As a technical specialist, Liandon designs, builds, manages and maintains complex private energy grids and large industrial and other installations for some 670 customers throughout the Netherlands and abroad. Its 700 staff continuously work to create innovative, customised solutions and translate high-level technological know-how into daily practice. Liandon is Alliander’s innovation driver and knowledge centre.

Activities

Liandon’s core activities are consultancy, projects, maintenance and management in the fields of high-voltage, complex medium-voltage, gas and industrial installations.

  • Liandon is a service provider of the grid manager, Liander, and the high-voltage company, Tennet. This means that Liandon is responsible for innovations in Liander’s grids and installations as well as for building, renovating, managing, maintaining and measuring, controlling and securing installations.
  • Liandon also works in the open market. It supplies comprehensive solutions and services including consultancy, innovation, building, maintenance, management and ICT for energy and other infrastructures.
  • Liandon’s metering company reads customers’ gas and electricity meters.
  • Liandon is Alliander’s technical knowledge centre. Some three-quarters of all innovations at Alliance originate in this business unit.

Liandon is a member of the Dutch Power Platform and contributes to guaranteeing the quality, reliability and continuity of the electricity infrastructure in the Netherlands.

Projects

Liandon works continuously on technologically high-value solutions, such as:

  • Super conductor cables
In cooperation with the Delft University of Technology, NKT (cable manufacturer) and Praxair (refrigeration unit specialist), Liandon has developed a new super conductor cable. The cable is designed to solve the increasing capacity problems resulting from the rising demand for energy. This cable is unique in the world.
  • Differential shovel
Liandon has developed a shovel that detects cables and pipes in the ground. This helps workers preparing for excavation.
  • Biogas
The grid managers Liander, Essent Netwerk, Stedin and Gasunie are working on improving biogas so that it is the same quality as natural gas. Liandon has designed equipment to measure and check the quality of the gas.
  • Heating
Liandon is working on sustainable solutions and has devised alternatives for the supply of heating, such as an installation for district heating. This technology combines the generation of electricity and heating and makes intelligent use of the supply and demand of heating and cooling.
