The Management Board of Alliander has four members. Mr M.J. Otto is Chair and Chief Executive Officer (CEO). Ms. M.I. Visser is Board Member and Chief Operating Officer (COO). Mr W. Th. Bien is Board Member and Chief Financial Officer (CFO). Mr F.D. Schut is Board Member and Chief Transition Officer (CTO). They are also responsible for the management and business operations of the grid operator Liander.

Chair and CEO
Maarten Otto was appointed chair of the Management Board and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) with effect from 21 May 2020. He was worked for Alliander since 2017, holding the position of Corporate & Social Affairs Director since 2018. Prior to that, he held various positions at organisational consultancies TEN HAVE Change Management and Twynstra Gudde.
Maarten Otto studied Management, Economics and Law at The Hague University of Applied Sciences and Public Administration at Erasmus University Rotterdam. He also holds a postgraduate diploma in Management Consulting from the VU Amsterdam.

Member and COO
Marlies Visser was appointed to the Management Board as Alliander’s new Chief Operating Officer (COO) on 1 May 2020. Her previous position was that of Director of Operations at Liander, which she held since 2014. Before that, she worked at the Netherlands’ primary railway operator, Nederlandse Spoorwegen, for nearly ten years, including as the company’s Service & Operations Manager.
Marlies Visser studied Communication Science at the University of Amsterdam and completed the INSEAD Advanced Management Programme (AMP) in Fontainebleau, France.

Management Board Member and CFO
Walter Bien has been a member of the Management Board and Chief Financial Officer (CFO) since 7 October 2019. Previous positions include Financial Director at Boskalis Dredging & Inland Infra and, prior to that, various executive and management posts at Boskalis. Before joining Boskalis, Walter Bien worked for Ballast Nedam.
Walter Bien studied Business Economics at the University of Amsterdam. In addition, he attended a Senior Executive Programme at the London Business School and a Postgraduate Controllers Programme at the University of Amsterdam.

Member and CTO
Daan Schut has been a member of the Management Board and CTO since 1 April 2019. Previously he served as Director of Asset Management from 2014. From 2014 to 2009 he held various management positions. Before Alliander, Daan Schut worked as an adviser at KPMG.
Daan Schut studied IT Auditing at Erasmus University Rotterdam and Business Economics at HAN University of Applied Sciences. In addition, he attended the Advanced Management Program (AMP) at INSEAD.
