Management Board

The Management Board of Alliander is responsible for running the organisation. They decide the strategy focused on long-term value creation, are responsible for managing risks, ensure that laws and regulations are followed, and promote a suitable company culture.

The Management Board reports to the Supervisory Board and the General Meeting of Shareholders. They work as a team (collegial management). The Management Board has two members who are appointed by the Supervisory Board, following a diversity policy. Their tasks and way of working are described in a set of rules (in Dutch).

Drs. M.J. Otto MMC

Chairman and Chief Executive Officer (CEO)

Maarten Otto has been Chairman of the Management Board and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) since May 2020. He has worked at Alliander since 2017 in various roles. Before that, he worked at the consultancy firms TEN HAVE Change Management and Twynstra Gudde.

Born: 1983, Dutch nationality.

Maarten Otto studied Management, Economics, and Law at The Hague University of Applied Sciences and Public Administration at Erasmus University Rotterdam. He also completed postgraduate programmes at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam and the London Business School.

Drs. W. Th. Bien RC

Member and Chief Financial Officer (CFO)

Walter Bien has been a member of the Management Board and Chief Financial Officer (CFO) since 7 October 2019. Before that, he was Finance Director at Boskalis Dredging & Inland Infra and held various management and director roles at Boskalis in the years before. Prior to Boskalis, Walter Bien worked at Ballast Nedam.

Born: 1972, Dutch nationality

Walter Bien studied Business Economics at the University of Amsterdam. He also completed a Senior Executive Program at the London Business School and a Postgraduate Controllers Program at the University of Amsterdam.
