Organisational structure

Alliander is a network company. We make sure that electricity and gas reach millions of people in the Netherlands through cables and pipes. But we do not do this alone. Behind the scenes, hundreds of people work together to provide a reliable and sustainable energy supply.

Who is in charge of Alliander?

Management Board

Responsible for managing the organisation

They decide the strategy focused on long-term value creation, are responsible for managing risks, ensure that laws and regulations are followed, and promote a suitable company culture. The Board reports to the Supervisory Board and the General Meeting of Shareholders.

They work as a team (collegial management). The Management Board has two members who are appointed by the Supervisory Board, following a diversity policy. Their tasks and way of working are described in a set of rules.

More about the Management Board

Executive Committee (ExCo)

Provides daily management

The ExCo supports and advises the Management Board. It is a team of seven people who make sure that Alliander’s strategy is actually put into action. Each member has their own area of focus, such as network expansion, customer contact, digitalisation, and HR policy. By working together, we can respond quickly and adapt well to changes in the energy sector.

As of 17 April 2025, the ExCo has 7 members.

The 2 statutory members are:

  • Maarten Otto (CEO)
  • Walter Bien (CFO)

In addition, 5 non-statutory members are part of the ExCo:

  • Heleen Cocu-Wassink (CHRO)
  • Rinke van de Rhee (CDO)
  • Charlotte Sanders (COO Networks)
  • Sarike van Wette (COO Customers)
  • Joris de Groot (CTO)

This board supervises the policy of the Management Board and the overall operations of Alliander. They review important decisions and make sure the company follows the rules. This helps Alliander stay reliable and transparent.

Working together for the future

At Alliander, people work in many different roles, from engineers and IT specialists to project managers and communications advisors. Everyone has their own role, but we all work towards the same goal: a future-proof energy network for the Netherlands. Our organisational structure helps with this. Clear responsibilities and collaboration between different parts of the company allow us to plan well, keep innovating, and ensure everything runs safely and reliably.

Why is this important?

The energy world is changing quickly. There are more and more solar panels, wind turbines, and electric cars. This requires smart solutions and a strong energy network. Alliander plays an important role in this. With our structure, we make sure we are ready for the future and can continue to provide energy to everyone.

A group with different parts

Alliander consists of several companies, each with its own role. The best-known part is Liander, our network operator. Liander makes sure that homes and businesses are connected to the energy network and that outages are fixed quickly. There is also Qirion, a technical company that works on smart energy solutions. This includes high-voltage installations, digital systems, and innovations that help with the energy transition. We also have Alliander Telecom, which makes sure our systems can communicate well with each other, for example for smart meters and digital networks. Within Alliander, new ideas regularly emerge. We develop these in small, independent companies: our start-ups. This is how we keep innovating.
