Working together to deliver energy for all
Alliander is one of the Netherlands’ largest energy network companies. Our energy network, cables and pipelines deliver power, heat and gas to millions of households and businesses every day. This is what keeps the lights on, keeps businesses running and ensures people have energy to live, work, travel and relax.
The energy landscape is changing rapidly. More and more households and businesses now generate their own energy and are going for sustainable solutions. We help society in this transition and make sure that everyone can continue to rely on energy, both today and tomorrow. Alliander is made up of a group of companies. Our shareholders are provincial authorities and municipalities.
Expertise
at Alliander
Alliander consists of several companies that each contribute their own unique expertise for a sustainable energy future. Together, we deliver reliable energy infrastructure and innovative solutions.
Our role
in the energy transition
We stand for an energy supply that is accessible to everyone: reliable, affordable and available. By continuously upgrading and innovating our networks, we are preparing for a future where everyone can use, produce and share sustainable energy. We invest in strong energy networks and develop innovative solutions, together with partners and provincial and local authorities. We align with our customers’ plans and support them in addressing complex challenges in the energy transition. In every single choice we make, we carefully consider both affordability and sustainability.
Operating and
developing energy grids
Alliander is the parent organisation and the employer brand. The driving force behind the energy system of the future. A strategic connector of people, policy and innovation. As a network operator, we have a statutory duty to operate and develop gas and electricity networks. Our largest subsidiary, Liander, accounts for roughly 95% of our revenue. Liander designs, develops and operates the gas and electricity grids and stands ready day and night to resolve outages. They also share knowledge and expertise with customers and authorities. This is how we work together to ensure an energy grid that is both future-proof and tailored to local needs. Liander also develops infrastructures for new forms of energy, such as heat and hydrogen.

An energy system
in motion
The energy we distribute comes from different sources, ranging from power plants to wind and solar farms, and from green gas feed-in to imports. Our grids are connected to TenneT’s high-voltage network and Gasunie’s gas network. As consumers and businesses increasingly feed energy from renewable sources back into the grid, supply and demand for energy are becoming more closely intertwined. To be able to accommodate that, the energy system needs to be flexible and future-proof.

Innovation
and collaboration
Collaboration is key. Alliander and its subsidiaries work with other network companies, public authorities and innovative parties in the energy sector. We enable the local exchange of energy and work closely in conjunction with local authorities on the heating transition.
As a driving force and co-designer, we help municipalities, provincial authorities and businesses guide the long-term development of the energy system. We make clear what the energy grid can handle and how certain choices work out in terms of cost to society. We also support organisations with data services and help build a flexible energy market where supply and demand are better aligned. This is how our products and services contribute to a future-proof energy grid.
